Sweden: Woman of Moroccan Origin Elected Vice President Of Halmstad Town Council

Halmstad  -  Moroccan Houda Alaoui Harouni, member of Swedish Moderate Party, was elected vice president of Halmstad town council (west) following Sweden’s latest general elections.

After being elected member of the said town council in 2010, thus becoming the first Swedish woman of Moroccan origin to sit in the council, Alaoui Harouni won local elections in Halmstad and was recently elected vice president of the town council as well as advisor at the city’s cultural council.

 “This election means a lot to me and crowns all efforts I made during my political career,” she told MAP.

She carries on by saying: “This victory is not only a personal victory but I also see it as a victory for Morocco, I especially dedicate it to my parents," said the new vice-president of the council of Halmstad which according to the news agency MAP has already build up for herself a solid reputation on the local political scene.
