Naples - The Mediterranean Foundation awarded, on Monday in Naples, the title of "Messenger of Peace" to Anna Lindh Foundation's president and HM the King's advisor André Azoulay for his commendable efforts in favor of peace and intercultural dialogue in the Mediterranean region.

The title was granted to him by Michele Capasso, president of the above Mediterranean Foundation, headquartered in Naples, on the sidelines of a dinner offered in honor of participants in celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of the Anna Lindh Foundation.

A tribute was paid, on this occasion, to action by Azoulay since his election in 2008 as head of the Anna Lindh Foundation which made, despite difficulties, huge strides in fighting misunderstandings and stereotypes and bringing the region's people closer by supporting youth and civil society in Mediterranean countries.

The Anna Lindh Foundation, which celebrates its 10th anniversary, has focused on providing an Euro-Mediterranean space where civil society has a privileged place.

With a network of 4000 NGOs, the Foundation has managed to involve to its activities about 500,000 people of different ages and backgrounds with the goal of making cultural dialogue a space for coexistence, away from racism, stigmatization and exclusion, he added.

The Foundation has also been committed to develop a taboo-free discourse and strategy aimed at promoting civic commitment based on the values of justice, equity and freedom, the president of the Anna Lindh Foundation pointed out.

"We managed to change many things and we proved that it is always possible to change things. We offered to the Mediterranean the guidelines of the possibility of living together (...) and expressing their own opinions despite differences", Azoulay said.

"it is not possible for us to work together if we are not aware of diversity. There is identity when everyone is aware of their own personality, their own history, their own spirituality and their own differences", he noted.
