HRH Princess Lalla Meryem, French Pres. Chair in Paris Opening of Exhibition ‘Splendours of Writing in Morocco, Rare and Unpublished Manuscripts’

Thursday, 23 March 2017

HRH Princess Lalla Meryem and French President François Hollande chaired here on Wednesday the opening of the exhibition "Splendours of writing in Morocco, rare and unpublished manuscripts", which is held from March 22 to April 6 under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI.

Following HM the King’s desire to highlight masterpieces of the art of writing in Morocco at the Arab World Institute in the French capital, the exhibition was organized by the Directorate of the Royal Archives.

Organized as part of Morocco's participation as a guest of honor at 2017 Paris Book Fair, the exhibition highlights Morocco’s manuscript heritage.

In a speech on this occasion, IMA president Jack Lang said that this event features rare and precious documents which have never been exhibited in France.

This exhibition mirrors Morocco's philosophy of tolerance, openness and respect of the other as advocated by HM the King, he said.

On this occasion, HRH Princess Lalla Meryem and French President François Hollande visited the exhibition "Splendours of writing in Morocco, rare and unpublished manuscripts".

Afterwards, the exhibition catalogue was handed to French President François Hollande and HRH Princess Lalla Meryem.

The event, which exhibits mainly three very rare and ancient books: a Quran, a Bible and a Torah, also reflects the foundations of the Moroccan state: a moderate Islam based on the Malekite Rite, Sunnit Sufism, Ashraarian doctrine and the commandership of the faithful.
