CCME: Italian delegation unveils its initiative to help migrants in the Mediterranean

Secretary-General of the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad, Mr. Abdullah Boussouf, received on Thursday, 21 May 2015 at the headquarters of the Council in Rabat, an Italian delegation made of representatives of a number of Italian Protestant churches.

During this meeting, the Secretary General of the Council of the Moroccan community, stressed that the tragedy of the thousands of migrants in the Mediterranean does not concern Italy alone but all European countries and they should bear a shared responsibility due to the interlocking and overlapping factors, that characterize the phenomenon of migration, which requires a different thinking to stop this tragedy.

"Immigration has always existed and will continue to accompany humanity, we cannot build a wall in the Mediterranean," said Mr Boussouf, adding that "human relations must be considered first in the treatment of this issue" and only the values ​​of justice, solidarity and respect will dissuade migrants attempting the adventure.

Mr. Boussouf has also highlighted the importance of immigration in the creation of links between people and cultures, "what would the world be without immigration and values ​​of coexistence and tolerance?”

For their part, members of the Italian delegation exposed a project in progress that aims to provide humanitarian aid and assistance to migrants stranded in the Mediterranean.

The initiative's main objective is to involve the Italian Government in managing the humanitarian issue of immigration and to provide for this purpose visas to migrants in difficult situations. The project also provides for the establishment of reception centers in Italy and in other European countries.
