Ahead of the federal elections on 23rd February 2025, the German government has announced a six-month period of extension of border controls in order to reduce irregular immigration. An extended deadline of 15 September has been announced by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans Living Abroad is organising a collective exhibition entitled “Feminine Art and Migration” in Rabat from February 13 to March 12, at the Espace Rivages in the Foundation’s offices. Mr Driss El Yazami, President of the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME), attended a ceremony in the city of Agadir , on Saturday 8 February 2025, in tribute to Mr Arsala Idder, former President of the Association of Moroccans in France (AMF). The ceremony was organised by the activist’s family and friends to commemorate his 94th birthday. The Florence Police Headquarters has announced, in multiple languages, an exceptional opening of the immigration office this Saturday for the issuance of residence permits, including for those without a prior appointment. In its latest monthly report on foreign trade indicators, published on 1st February 2025, the Foreign Exchange Office reports that remittances from Moroccans living abroad reached more than MAD 117.7 billion in 2025, up from MAD 115.26 billion in 2023. According to the Bureau, the remittances recorded an increase of 2.1% (plus 2.45 billion dirhams) as compared to the end of December 2023. A report recently published by the World Bank on migration and development ranks Morocco just behind Egypt.
