An edition marked by the diversity of Moroccan voices from around the world
Rabat, 10 May 2026 – The Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME) has concluded its participation in the 31st edition of the International Publishing and Book Fair (SIEL), held in Rabat from 1 to 10 May 2026.
Over the course of ten days, the CCME brought together more than 120 guests from fifteen countries, who took part in over 70 events and discussions. This presence highlighted a literary and artistic production emerging from Moroccan migration, characterised by multilingualism, disciplinary diversity, global reach and the growing prominence of women’s writing, notably with the participation, for the first time, of a Moroccan-Australian novelist.
Several tributes marked this edition, notably to Driss Chraïbi on the occasion of the centenary of his birth, as well as to Ahmed Ghazali, Mohamed Leftah and Salem Chaker. These highlights provided an opportunity to revisit their works and contributions through discussions, readings and publications.
This edition was also marked by the presence of French-Moroccan playwright, stage director and filmmaker Mohamed El Khatib, guest of honour of the CCME. Three of his films, a reading of one of his plays and two public discussions enabled audiences to discover a body of work situated at the crossroads of intimate narratives, memory, mourning and multiple belongings.
The various events organised in Arabic, Amazigh, French, English and Spanish also addressed contemporary issues such as language transmission, translation and the circulation of literary works, women’s writing, migratory memories, new forms of literary and artistic creation, as well as the contribution of technology, notably through the recent launch by the CCME of “Goul-IA”, a chatbot dedicated to Moroccans around the world.

From an editorial perspective, since its creation, the CCME has built a unique collection of literary works, studies and art books published in the various languages of Moroccan migration. This body of work aims to develop scientific knowledge on migration, preserve the memories of emigration, inform public policy, promote Moroccan writers from around the world and strengthen their cultural ties with Morocco. Today, this collection includes 167 studies, 60 novels and literary collections, 20 art books, 17 boxed sets, 10 reports and magazines, 7 graphic novels, 4 games and 5 exhibition catalogues.
Present at SIEL since 2009, the CCME has welcomed more than 1,000 speakers from Morocco and abroad and is proud to have contributed to making this event a literary and intellectual space where Moroccan writers, artists and thinkers from around the world meet and engage in dialogue with their peers in Morocco.
The CCME extends its thanks to all its institutional and cultural partners, notably the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and the Book Fair Commission, the Moroccan Cinematographic Centre, the Cinémathèque du Maroc, 2M TV, Fondation Hiba, Moroccan publishing houses, as well as the Embassy of Australia in Morocco. It also expresses its gratitude to the five constitutional institutions and regulatory bodies with which it shared, for the third consecutive year, a common pavilion: the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE), the Competition Council (CC), the National Authority for Probity, Prevention and the Fight against Corruption (INPPLC), the High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA), the National Commission for the Control of Personal Data Protection (CNDP), and the Commission on the Right of Access to Information (CDAI).
