Radicalization requires the involvement of the political and the civil society of the countries of origin and residence, said Mr. Abdellah Boussouf, Secretary General of the Council of the Moroccan Community living Abroad (CCME), on Monday, November 20, 2017 in the spanish city of Sevilla, during the Spanish-Moroccan forum: “Andalusia and Morocco: educating in diversity”.
Speaking at a round table on “The Role of Education in the Prevention of Radicalization”, Mr Boussouf, said that education was not only a matter of teaching in schools but also the indispensable responsibility of family, society and social networks. “
The Secretary General of the CCME noticed the immense lack of the culture of origin of Moroccan migrants which is part of their identity. And in this case he said : “its religious and linguistic aspects in schoolbooks and the deficiency against stereotypes round migrants in the Spanish society. He therefore, urged to recall the rich common heritage between the Moroccan and Spanish cultures and the intrinsic of the migrants children’s identity. Whereas, the Arabic language must be considered as “a living language” likewise the other foreign languages taught in Spain.
Mr. Boussouf also said that the crisis that many host countries are encountering is a “crisis of identity” that requires furnishing schools with the methods of teaching the children “within their identity, culture and their rights as European citizens”. Yet, he lauded the efforts of the Spanish teachers and schools where children are of Moroccan immigrants are signifiant, and the teachers of Arabic language and Moroccan culture sent from Morocco.
Immigrant families must not be isolated in ghettos, said Mr Boussouf reminding that the Moroccan has a greater capacity than other immigrants to live in harmony in any society “because the Moroccan identity is composed of several tributaries” as stipulated in the 2011 Constitution.
This round table, leaded by Daniel Garcia, journalist of the Spanish daily paper Público, was attended by professors and members of the Institute of Peace and Conflict of the University of Granada and Mr Mokhtar El Harras professor at the University Mohammed V of Rabat.
The Spanish-Moroccan forum “Andalusia and Morocco: educating in diversity” is organized by the Three Cultures Foundation, in partnership with the Andalusian Ministry of Education, the Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans living Abroad and the Council of the Moroccan Community living Abroad.
