Sochepress éditions and the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME) publish the book “رحمة : الطريق نحو حريتي ” (Rahma : the path to my freedom) by the Moroccan-dutch author Rahma El Mouden. The book, which has been translated from Dutch into Arabic, is available in Libraries and online book stores in Morocco and abroad, to make it more easily available to Moroccans throughout the world.

The story, translated from Dutch into Arabic by Mr. Mustafa Aarab, following a joint proposal from the two institutions, looks at the struggles and the achievements of a young Moroccan girl on her quest for freedom, emancipation and autonomy. The novel questions the reader on contemporary issues such as gender, culture, identity and equality, and at the same time symbolizes the determination and success of a Moroccan woman who transcends the borders of her homeland.

Through her book,Rahma El Mouden offers a singular perspective on the womens condition, illustrating how her journey from Morocco to the Netherlands combines “rootedness and openness”.“I learned never to give up, whether in Tangiers, where I grew up, or in Amsterdam, where I built my freedom”, she writes in her book, highlighting the challenges and successes of a life between two cultures.

Supporting the translation of the book to make it more accessible to the Moroccan public, CCME President Driss El Yazami declares that “Ms. Rahma El Mouden’s work is an ode to will and determination, a bridge linking the stories of future generations to those that have gone before”, adding that “Ms. El Mouden’s journey embodies the ability of Moroccan migrants, women in particular, to succeed abroad, while remaining attached to their roots. It’s an inspiring story that resonates with the aspirations of young Moroccans, both at home and abroad”.

The managing Director for Sochepress éditions, Mr. Mounaim Bouziane says: “Rahma El Mouden’s story tells us how resilience can be the key to any success. Her book is a celebration of the power of freedom and personal achievement, something we are very proud of, as it brings a powerful message to a wider audience”.

Born in Tangiers in 1958, Rahma El Mouden left Morocco at the age of 17 for The Netherlands, a country she had dreamt of discovering since she was eight. Leaving Morocco with no knowledge of the language or culture, she is currently the head of one of the largest cleaning services companies in the Netherlands. She embodies a uniquely successful career shaped of ambition, hard work and determination.
