Paris: "Contemporary Morocco" at the IMA

Morocco will be honoured by The Arab World Institute (IMA) through a big scale event, which will be inaugurated on October 15, is "it’s an exceptional event for an exceptional country," said the president of the IMA Jack Lang.

Through a major exhibition, the public will get to discover until the beginning of 2015 "all facets of the artistic ferment of contemporary Morocco," said Lang in a message on this occasion.

Spread over 2,500 square meters and throughout the IMA, the event will showcase the work of over 80 artists (visual artists, designers, filmmakers, architects, fashion designers ...), representing the many artistic movements a well as the cultural, linguistic, ethnic and religious Moroccan diversity.  Indeed this exhibition is said to be "one of the most important exhibitions ever devoted in France to the contemporary art scene from a foreign country."

The program for this event includes nearly 30 concerts showcasing different genres of Moroccan music, appealing to every taste: classical music, traditional music, folk music, but also rock, rap and hip hop. Further, four dance performances and the best of Moroccan cinema are also scheduled Younger guests won’t be left behind as there will be workshops specifically designed for them.

Various lectures and discussions with distinguished guests will take place, covering many interesting topics such as “the languages ​​of Morocco, Sufism, religion, civil society, feminism, media, literature” added the President of the  IMA, who also revealed that an imposing traditional tent of Moroccan Sahara will be pitched on the forecourt of the Institute.

Open to all, this tent of nearly 500 square meters, redesigned by architect Tarik Oualalou will host various activities, performances and will be the place to go to savor Moroccan tea and traditional Moroccan pastries.

For Lang, this event is for "lovers of Morocco, art lovers or the simply curious." He further noted that other shows around the contemporary Morocco will be schedules by the IMA in other famous locations in Ile of France: City Theatre, House of World Cultures and Theatre Gerard Philippe Saint-Denis
