Friday, 05 December 2014

The Governing Council, meeting on Thursday under the chairmanship of the head of government, Abdelilah Benkirane, has adopted a draft decree on the establishment and organization of Moroccan cultural centers abroad.

Presented by the Minister of Moroccans living abroad and migration affairs, Mr.Birou, this text emphasizes the interests of the Moroccans residing abroad in order to strengthen their ties with their country of origin, said the Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance, in charge of Budget, Mr. Idriss Azami, during a press briefing after the Council meeting.

It goes together with the application of Article 16 of the Constitution which stipulates that the Kingdom of Morocco works to protect the rights and legitimate interests of its citizens and those of the Moroccan citizens residing abroad and gives importance to the maintenance and development of their human and cultural ties with the Kingdom and the preservation of their national identity, said Mr.Azami.

The draft decree includes a series of provisions defining the creation and organization of these centers, named "Moroccan cultural center - Dar Al-Maghrib" and defines the tasks entrusted to them for the preservation of the national identity of the Moroccan community. These centers also contribute to the promotion of Moroccan culture in all its tributaries.

The new text further sets the director of the Center's missions and stipulates the establishment of a ministerial committee in charge of setting up the general guidelines inherent to the work of such centers. It will also oversee their operation and monitor and evaluate the results of their activities.
