Thursday, 11 December 2014

The Consulate General of Morocco in Amsterdam organized on Tuesday evening, a tribute ceremony to a group of immigrants of the first generation of Moroccans living in the Netherlands for their invaluable sacrifices in the service of their host and origin countries but also for the current generations of immigrants.

This tribute aims to better recognize the work of all those earlier generations who have strived tirelessly to pave the way to the generations of today in the Netherlands.

The first generation made efforts and sacrifices so that the youth of today can live in dignity and prosperity, said on this occasion the Ambassador of Morocco in the Netherlands, Abdelouahab Bellouki.

Mr. Bellouki, who said that this initiative comes after others that took place recently at the consular districts of Utrecht, Rotterdam and Den Bosch, stressed the importance of strengthening the links between the Dutch Moroccans of all generations.

He also placed emphasis on the importance of good integration of Moroccans in Dutch society while remaining attached to the identity and Moroccan culture with its many tributaries.

Consul General of Morocco in Amsterdam, Jennane Talal said the initiative comes into effect and in line with the recommendations and solicitude of HM King Mohammed VI in respect to the Moroccan community abroad.

The first generation of Moroccan immigrants in the Netherlands has invested fully and positively to pave the way to future generations in their host country, said Mr. Jennane, adding that faced with integration difficulties, including language, culture and climate, Moroccans have been able to show patience, self-sacrifice and tolerance.

Ten immigrant deans of Amsterdam were honored during the ceremony held Tuesday night in the suburbs of the Dutch capital, in collaboration with civil society.
