France: 70% increase in "Islamophobic" acts since the attacks in Paris

The number of 'Islamophobic' acts in France has increased by 70% compared to the same period in 2014 since the January attacks that took place in Paris against satirical news weekly Charlie Hebdo and the kosher supermarket , announced Wednesday, February 11 the Collective against Islamophobia in France (CCIF).

Thus, the group has recorded 153 'Islamophobic' acts between January 7 and February 7 (+ 70%). Among the facts found since the attack, the CCIF reported 33 attacks against mosques, which is "more than the total of the year 2014".

The CCIF also notes an increase of 10.6% of Islamophobic acts in 2014 compared to 2013, with more than 764 identified actions. Such action includes 22 physical assaults, 586 discrimination and 25 attacks against institutions (mosques in particular).

Islam is the second religion in France, with 3.5 to five million followers and 2300-3000 mosques and prayer rooms.
