Saturday, 21 February 2015

The pavilion of the CCME hosted a literary conference on Moroccan immigration in Belgium, to which Taha Adnan, Belgian-Moroccan poet Jamila Ben Azzouz, a clinical psychologist in Belgium were invited while Samira El Ayachi, French-Moroccan writer who moderate the meeting.

2Taha Adnan chose to begin his speech by reading an excerpt from his collective work "Brussels, the Moroccan," the excerpt chosen by the poet traces the olfactory and gustatory journey of the protagonist as he goes through the streets of Brussels, randomly in search of any "Arabism"

The idea of writing this book came to him after realizing that nothing written in Arabic was ever dedicated to the city of Brussels in contrast to major world cities like Paris and London. He decided to take the step by publishing this book involving other authors, including the moderator of the meeting Samira El Ayachi.

1For her part, Jamila Ben Azzouz embarked on the adventure of writing by publishing "Moroccan immigration: 50 journeys 50 talents" she wanted to give a voice to people who didn’t have but especially to counter the negative image given to Moroccan immigration, the choice fell on 50 talents that have succeeded where the competition is tough and contributed to the development of the Belgian society

"I wanted to break this negative image that the Belgian have on Moroccan immigrants which doesn’t represent the whole of this community," she also evoked the malaise in which some of the youth are entangled, torn between his identity as a origin and the values of Western society

For this book, she wants to highlight these Belgian-Moroccans who were able to adapt and meet the challenge of coexistence.
