Belgium Interested In Morocco’s Imam Training Experience

Belgium’s Deputy-Prime Minister and Foreign Minister expressed on Monday in Geneva his country’s interest in learning from Morocco’s Imam training experience.

Speaking to MAP following a meeting with Minister Delegate to Foreign Minister Mbarka Bouaida, the Belgian Deputy-Prime Minister praised Morocco for its considerable experience in training Imams, noting that there is a need in his country to attach due attention to this issue.

Reynders, who met Bouaida on the sidelines of the 28th UN Human Rights Council, added that forging partnerships to train Imams would help counter radicalism.

The Belgian official also said that he intends to visit Morocco to seek the means to cooperate in training Imams.

For her part, Bouaida expressed Morocco’s willingness to cooperate with Belgium highlighting the importance of the Imam training program which involves women in religious supervision tasks.

On the occasion of this session of the HRC, Mbarka Bouaida also took part in a meeting chaired by Britain on religious freedom and the fight against extremism. This meeting was an opportunity to discuss the Moroccan example in this regard, particularly the Moroccan triptych security, socio-economic and religious guidance.

Emphasis was also laid on a draft resolution on intolerance which will be presented at the 28th session, the aim being to promote consensus among the members of the Board with respect to this phenomenon which is facing the world today.
