Exhibition “Feminine migrations" pays tribute to female migrants in Paris town hall

Wednesday, 11 March 2015

This exhibition traces back the realities of women who came to settle in France from the early twentieth century to the present. A selection of archival documents can show the issues raised by immigration in France and the contributions of women to advance equality and living together.

The association "Génériques” has been working since 1987 on the issue of the valuation of the history of immigration in France and Europe. Its mission is to "encourage work on the history of immigration" and "raise public awareness on the contribution of foreign populations to the national and European history."

The angle is original and meets a real need: showcasing images on the experience of female migration and value the stories of women who also had to face two pitfalls: to be a woman and being of another origin.

This type of exhibition is part of a vital work, in which culture can contribute: to honor the usually invisible people, maintain their memory and recall their contributions.

Génériques also makes available on its website many documents addressing complementary themes, including immigrant women's contribution in the fight for equality and against discrimination.

The exhibition "Feminine migration" will be open to the public until March 14. Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 am to 17h, Thursdays from 8:30 to 7:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9am to 12.30pm.
