Report: 20% of foreigners living in Catalonia are Moroccans

According to a report by the Idescat (Catalan Institute of Statistics), 226,818 Moroccans have settled in Catalonia at the end of 2014, representing 20% ​​of foreigners living in this Spanish region.

According to the same source the number of foreigners living in Catalonia totaled 1.89 million, representing 14.5% of the Catalan population, in comparison to a proportion of foreigners amounting to 10.7% in the rest of Spain.

However, the report indicates that the number of foreigners living in Catalonia has declined by 6% compared to 2013. The number of foreigners who obtained Spanish citizenship amounts to 73,500 people, of which 62% are nationals of countries of South and Central America.

As for the Europeans, they represent 32.2% of the total population of the region, while the number of Africans fell to second place with 28.2%, followed by Americans (26.7%) and Asian ( 12.9%), the report said.
