Spain committed to pay special attention to Moroccan seasonal workers and to flexible family reunification procedures

The XI bilateral summit held last Friday, June 5, 2015 in Madrid between the governments of Madrid and Rabat has served to strengthen the bilateral relationship, marked by the desire of both countries to prioritize the shared interests and to diffuse the tensions.

After the meeting, the two governments have signed a joint declaration in which Spain 'praises, the Moroccan democratic model, unique in the region, which is built around tolerance, openness and freedom ".

The statement also devoted few paragraphs to the Moroccan emigration to Spain and promises to pay "special attention" to temporary and seasonal workers and to "manage flexibly and appropriately issues related to reunification in accordance with its national legislation ".

In addition, Morocco and Spain discussed the possibility of Moroccans living in Spain and Spanish residents in Morocco to vote in municipal elections, something that today is not possible and would require negotiating a treaty between the two countries.
