Netherlands: Discrimination in hiring evident as demonstrated by the Ministry of Social Affairs

Thursday, 03 September 2015

While the Ministry of Social Affairs is preparing to launch a new campaign against discrimination, a new study shows discrimination in the employment of minorities is evident, particularly among young people of Moroccan immigration.

An experiment conducted by the Department of Lodewijk Asscher reveals that seemingly looking Dutch people are 2 times more likely to be called in for a job interview than ethnic minorities, reports Dutchnews.

According to the same source, the researchers deliberately placed 1700 fake CV in the databases of job search sites. They then observed how many times the CVs in question were read and how many times the candidates were called in for a job interview.

Their conclusion is that the origin and age -the study also aimed to determine the discrimination of the elderly- are key factors to gain employment in the Netherlands and that discrimination against minorities is evident.
