UN: Over 700.000 Migrants reached Europe across the Mediterranean Sea

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced on October 27th, 2015, that over 700 thousand migrants and refugees reached Europe across the Mediterranean this year, whereas 3210 among them died or were lost.

According to official figures, more than 705200 migrants and refugees crossed the Mediterranean since the beginning of the year, the majority of whom are from Syria (64%), that mostly reached Europe via Greece, reports the French Press Agency (AFP).

In a memorandum sent to the media, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that the number of arrivals to Greece remains high, despite the extreme weather conditions on the weekend. The IOM mentioned that around 10.000 people reached Greece at the end of last week.
