Madrid : Moroccan-Spanish Forum on Immigration and Integration

Thursday, 19 November 2015

A Moroccan-Spanish Forum on Immigration and Integration ail is held in Madrid from November 19th to 20th, at the initiative of the Ministry of Moroccans Living Abroad and Migration Affairs and the Spanish Secretariat General for Migration.

This bilateral forum, headed by Mr. Anis Birou, the Minister in charge of Moroccans Living Abroad and Migration Affairs, and Marina del Corral Téllez, the Spanish Secretary General for Migration, will particularly raise the new Policy for Migration and Asylum in Morocco, the new approach to migration policy in Spain, and its contribution to economic growth and integration policies.

Many debates are scheduled during this meeting, not least “the situation of Moroccans living in Spain and their contribution to socio-economic and cultural exchanges”, “new approaches to migration policies: Migration as an engine for development”, and “the role of civil society”.

According to the forum organizers, this will equally be an opportunity to introduce the successful experiences of Moroccan talents living in Spain and of Spanish civil society institutions and organizations in the field of migrants’ integration.

Figures of the Observatory for Permanent Immigration (OPI), published last week, show that the number of Moroccans living legally in Spain reached 763.775 people through the end of last June. Moroccans represent the first foreign community originally from a country outside the EU, legally residing in Spain.
