The Sheikh Zayed Book award the title of “cultural personality of the year” to a renowned personality in the Arab world and internationally that has contributed to enriching Arab and international cultures in terms of creativity and thinking, as well as reflecting the values of authenticity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence in his works.

Historian and scholar Abdallah Larouri will receive his award at a ceremony which will be held during the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, slated for April 30 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, where many eminent figures will be rewarded in various categories

"The choice of prominent historian and theoretician Abdallah Laroui as the Cultural Personality of the Year has been made to reflect his well-founded thought movement and cultural momentum spanning the entire Arab World. His valuable contribution to academic institutes and scientific bodies has profoundly influenced Arab political thinking and inspired numerous cultural and literary practices”, General Secretary of Sheikh Zayed Book Award, Ali Bin Tamim, said in a statement.

The statement highlights some aspects of Abdallah Larouri’s biography (born in 1933 in the central city of Azemmour), his thought, his culture, his writings and his contributions in the Arab culture.

It also notes that historian Abdallah Larouri is an expert in ancient and modern Arab culture, as well as in western culture in its intellectual, literary and artistic aspects, and more specifically in the fields of philosophy, history, novel and cinema.
