Spain: Mr. Mohammed Chaib becomes the first Spanish deputy of Moroccan origin

Mr. Mohammed Chaib, a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), was sworn in Madrid on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, becoming the first Spanish deputy of Moroccan origin.

After the dismissal of Mr. Mariano Rajoy, former Prime Minister and leader of the spanish Popular Party (PP) followed by the appointment of the Socialist Mr. Pedro Sanchez as Prime Minister,  Ms. Meritxell Batet, deputy of the city of Barcelona,  was appointed Minister of Territorial Administration in the new government. Mohammed Chaib, second on the list of the PSOE in the Catalan Constituency, has logically become a member of parliament.

Born in Tangier, Mr. Chaib graduated in pharmacy from the Universities of Granada and Barcelona. Mohammed Chaib, was elected as member to the Catalan Parliament in 2003 and  2006.
