Mounir Mahjoubi, a 33-year-old French national of Moroccan origin, was appointed on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 as Secretary of State for Digital in the new government of President Emmanuel Macron.
The young Parisian, son of a couple of working class migrants who settled in France in the 1970s, has made his digital passion, a profession. But there is more. The Curriculum Vitae of the young Secretary of State is lenghty: he studies at Sciences Po Paris where he gets the very prestigious price of “Eloquence”. He pursues his studies at the American University of Cambridge.
Back in Paris, he becomes a membrer of the French Labor party and trade unionist. During the elections opposing Mrs Segolène Royal (Labor Party) and Nicholas Sarkozy (Republican party), he is in charge of the digital campaign of Mrs. Ségolene Royal.
In 2016, Mounir Mahjoubi is appointed by former President François Hollande: Head of the National Digital Council Link, an advisory body which purpose is to formulate recommendations on digital.
Mr Mahjoubi resigns in 2017 from the National Digital Link, and joins the brand-new political movement « En Marche! » of Emmanuel Macron, the 8th and youngest president (39 years) of the 5th Republic of France.
Mounir Mahjoubi, has also been nominated for the French legislative elections under the label « La République en Marche ! » in the 16th Arrondissement of the French capital against his previous acolyte, Jean Christophe Cambadélis, 1st secretary of the Labor party.
The young secretary of state, will have to resign from the government, if he is elected in the legislative elections, to become member of Parliament
